Here's your chance to become an NSPF instructor, and travel to Costa Rica! What could be better. Here's the news release sent out today.

Attend an NSPF® Instructor Training School
in Costa Rica February 25-27, 2009
Qualify to Teach the Leading Training Programs Available from NSPF

Colorado Springs, Colorado/December 8, 2008
The National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®) will offer an Instructor class in San Jose, Costa Rica, February 25-27, 2009. English and Spanish speakers from Central America, South America, Mexico, Caribbean, Spain, and the U.S. can participate in training at this attractive location. Those who successfully complete the instructor class gain access to all NSPF products at discounted prices and can teach all NSPF courses. Individuals who have not yet achieved CPO® certification may contact NSPF for details on how to become certified.
“The CPO certification program is the most widely accepted pool and spa professional training program,” says Alex Antoniou, Ph.D., Director of Educational Programs at NSPF. “Over 236,000 industry professionals from 45 countries have taken this training and demand continues to grow,” he adds. “Holding this class in Central America responds to customer request to bring the exceptional Spanish training materials from NSPF to new instructors around the world,” concludes Silvia Uribe, the Project Coordinator leading the NSPF expansion to Spanish speaking countries.
The course has no more than a 5:1 student teacher ratio and covers teaching methodologies, use of teaching aids and equipment, learning theories, lesson planning with PowerPoint presentations, administrative policies and procedures, and graded practical teaching exercises. The cost for participating is US $595 which includes tuition, all class materials
and lunch each day. The registration deadline is Wednesday, January 14, 2009; however, the class will close sooner if it fills, so register early by contacting, or by telephone to 011-719-540-9119 or via FAX to 011-719-540-2787 with payment by Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.

The growing collection of educational materials available worldwide from the Foundation in both English and Spanish includes the Pool-Spa Operator™ Handbook and educational materials, Pool Operator Primer™ online training, the Aquatic Play Feature™ Handbook, the Pool Math™ Workbook, eProAcademy™ online training center, and the NSPF Spanish website, which has most of the information from its English twin.

Colorado Springs, CO (December 3, 2008)
The National Swimming Pool Foundation has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). In obtaining this approval, the National Swimming Pool Foundation has demonstrated that it complies with the ANSI/IACET Standards which are widely recognized as standards of good practice internationally.
As a result of its Authorized Provider membership status, the National Swimming Pool Foundation is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standards.
NSPF completed an extensive application, was reviewed by an IACET site visitor, and successfully demonstrated adherence to all ANSI/IACET Standards.
There are plans to provide CEUs for all NSPF educational products by the close of 2009. Effective immediately, individuals who enroll in the following NSPF courses and seminars will be eligible for CEUs:
Two-day Certified Pool/Spa Operator® Certification training course (English or Spanish) 1.8 CEUs
Pool Operator Primer™ (English or Spanish) 0.9 CEUs
Pool Operator Fusion™ (English or Spanish) 0.9 CEUs
World Aquatic Health™ Conference (WAHC) online seminars 0.15 CEUs
“Many people are required to complete a certain number of continuing education courses in order to keep their professional certification current to maintain their license. Now they can learn through NSPF’s classroom courses and online training portal, and earn the CEUs they need,” explains Alex Antoniou, Ph.D., NSPF Director of Educational Programs. “The IACET certification signifies the hallmark for quality in educational training. We remain committed to continuing our leadership role as educators. Having the IACET credential was the logical next step in supporting our education posture,” states Thomas M. Lachocki, Ph.D., CEO of the NSPF.
To receive CEUs, individuals should request an evaluation form by contacting NSPF by emailing or by calling 719-540-9119. Upon receipt of a completed evaluation form, NSPF will issue the appropriate number of CEUs to the individual.
The growing collection of educational materials and programs available worldwide from the Foundation includes the Certified Pool/Spa Operator® (CPO®) certification training (English, Spanish, and French), NSPF® Pool/Spa Operator™ Handbook, Pool Operator Primer™ online training program (English and Spanish), Pool Operator Fusion™ (English and Spanish) the Aquatic Play Feature™ Handbook (English and Spanish) Pool Math™ Workbook (English and Spanish), seminars from the 2007 and 2008 World Aquatic Health™ Conference, and the eProAcademy™ online training center ( (English and Spanish).

Got it! : )

Rex - let's also check with Alex before we make any changes. I agree that all is available to CPOs - however, not all members of an NSPF group might be a CPO. Does that help? Laurie

Laurie and Craig,

Are all the NSPF programs open to the CPO group? Would there be any specialty postings to drill down on a topic particular to the "sub group"? If the answer to these questions is all info to all members, then we could send noticed and combine the groups.

Would like to hear your thoughts, and of course I would run it by Tom to see if he had any plans for the two groups. It's easy to start new groups, but taking one down requires a "member move" and it would be better now before the group gets too large.

I agree with your comment Laurie. These groups could even be combined perhaps....

Hi, somehow this group should also link to the NSPF group - we should have membership in both.Don't you think?
