Building Your Sales from the Ground Up

I have recently noticed that I spend a whole lot of time sharing tips and techniques can help with the retail end of a product life cycle. There is much more to the pool industry than just retail, however, and today I would like to spend a few minutes talking about techniques that can just as easily be applied to Builder's and Service Companies as they can to Retail stores.

I would like to help you build your sales from the ground up

The Form of Competition That Is Imperative to Your Survival

There are a lot of people surrounding me lately that are heartbroken. I am NOT going to talk about the crushing defeat that the Canucks suffered in hockey, but I would like to talk to you about the intense emotions surrounding this event.

Whether or not you follow hockey (I don't), you know what happens when there is a series event - the Stanley Cup, the Superbowl, the World Cup, the NBA Finals, the World Series...you get my point. They all have incredibly intense fans…

Portable Pools Drowning Study

The journal Pediatrics just released  a study  on children drowning in portable pools. It is hitting the media today and probably all week. I've gotten calls from the Today Show, ABC and the Wall St Journal on this so far.

Read the study here and be informed:

Standards to Adopt for a Durable Plaster Finish

This article provides the basis and evidence for the recommendations to wait at least 6 hours before filling new plaster pools, using a low water/cement ratio for a plaster mix¸ and reducing the amount of calcium chloride added (one percent or less). Builders, Service Techs and Pool Plasterers can work together to ensure a quality plaster job that will last a long time and be stain resistant. Pool owners want and pay for a quality product.

Several experiments were performed,…

The $ 55,000 Planter

Folks,

I witness a senseless murder of a swimming pool last week, I felt so helpless.  It was a week ago, I was helping my daughter move into her first place.  Her apartment unit overlooked a cute courtyard, and in its middle was a beautiful 30,000 gallon swimming pool sitting empty.  I asked my daughter when are they going to fill it, and she was told within a couple of days.  She commented how excited she was to have the pool so close to her unit, and it was a deciding…

Red Car Syndrome - Coming to a Store Near You!

Yesterday I started to share with you what I believe to be the TOP 3 WAYS TO SELL MORE WITHOUT SPENDING A DIME ON MARKETING.

As I said, giving you all 3 at once would take up too much space (and too much of your time), so I have started a 3-day series, of which today is Day 2. If you missed the first one, you can read it here:…

Top 3 Ways to SELL More Without SPENDING More

What you are about to read is very important. It may be basic, but it is very important. In my younger days I spent a great deal of time merchandising for various retail stores, and I have come up with what I believe to be the TOP 3 WAYS TO SELL MORE WITHOUT SPENDING A DIME ON MARKETING.

It will take up too much space (and too much of your time) to include them all in one blog, so I am going to do something a bit unorthodox: I am going to post 1 tip today, 1…

question on cost to construct vinyl liner pool in alabama

hi,  can anyone out there give me a rough idea of the average cost to construct a 12'x18' Grecian shape in-ground vinyl liner pool in Huntsville, Alabama?  3' concrete band of deck.

also, what is the cost to replace a liner for this size pool?

do they winterize pools in Alabama and if so, the approximate cost to do so.

Thanks,  Middy

What Does Socrates Have to Do With Your Pool Business?

Do you ever read famous quotes? Some people just have a knack for saying things in a way that make sense and speak directly to you.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is from Socrates:

The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be who you pretend to be.

Isn't that fantastic?

I love it. I try my hardest to consider that quote…
