Has anyone heard of a dog turning yellowish green in a salt chlorinated pool. Water does not contain Copper or Iron. It may contain Manganese. Pool Test: PH 7.5 ALK: 70 CALCIUM: 244 F.CHL: 1.7 T. CHL: 1.7 Salt 4400 TDS: 300
This pool is a rehabilitation/therapy pool for Dogs. Does anyone have any suggestions?
What type of salt is being used in the pool. If the pool is being treated with a salt that has any type of dye in it, combined with the high salinity levels it may be possible to discolor the dogs hair. I have seen this a few times with bathers who have lighter colored hair.
Just another thought,,,does this dog wear a choker chain or metal collar? The salinity level seems excessively high and cannot understand why this level is needed for swg.....also I would raise alkalinity level to 110-120ppm...did you ask the dog about where he has been spending his nights?
there have been a few dogs affected. Metals was my first guess to, but I tested for them and came up with 0ppm. The cage rubbing and shampoos I didn't think of, so i will investigate that further. Any other suggestions are welcome . Thank you.
Is this the only dog affected? If so I would tend to believe it is from some other environment, such as a metal cage, where the dog may be laying against it and retaining metal deposits in its hair. Upon entering a chlorinated pool the metals come out of suspension. Also check for certain shampoos or other treatments the dog may be receiving.
