Hi. I work on the Outer Banks of North Carolina installing inground pools and free standing spas. We have to deal with a lot of rental properties and the neglect and abuse that happens then. We have been proponents of Ray's "No Main Drain" policy for a long time and I will confirm that in over 500 pools on the Outer Banks with no Main Drain there is no problem keeping them clean. But what does happen is if those same renters neglect to replace the water that is lost from splashout and evaporation there is a problem, No Circulation. No sanitizer, no filtering and eventualy a ruined pump. Fortunatley there is an econonical and easy solution. Autofill. Autofills are simple and inexpensive during construction, you just need to add a gauge to record the fill amount over time to watch for leaks. I said it was small.
