As professionals interested in using the aquatic environment for wellness promotion, health recovery and maintenance, we have faced an uphill battle getting the word out of the tremendous potential benefits. In part this has been because of the lack of compelling research documenting those benefits. Over the past 10 years, there has been an upswelling of excellent quality research supporting the many benefits of aquatic activity. This research leaves little doubt that if aquatic activity were more broadly encouraged and available, the general health of the nation would improve.
