The Aquatic Physical Therapy Section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) will hold its Summit in conjunction with the 2010 World Aquatic Health™ Conference (WAHC™) scheduled October 6-8, at the Antlers Hilton Hotel located in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The WAHC is sponsored by the National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®).

The collaboration brings together two leading organizations who spotlight the unique properties of the aquatic environment to enhance health.

“We are excited to be collaborating with the NSPF on the World Aquatic Health Conference to help us elevate the practice and acceptance of aquatic physical therapy and to learn from leading researchers,” says Sharon H. Kneebone, IOM, CAE, Acting Executive Officer Aquatic Physical Therapy Section, APTA.  “The WAHC has great appeal because it also presents leading experts on many illness and injury prevention topics that our members are interested in learning more about,” adds Bess Maxwell, Ph.D., PT the President of the APTA Aquatic Section.

This year’s WAHC Health Benefit education track will offer nine seminars that share the latest research findings from leading physicians and scientists over two days.  They will reveal new science that demonstrates why immersion and activity in the aquatic environment benefits mankind.  Pools and spas are ideal environments to reverse negative health trends and to help the vastly increasing aging and sedentary population.  There are currently more than 3.8 million people in the United States older than 85.  That figure is expected to grow to 9 million by year 2030 and 19 million by the year 2050.
