Thanks....u did a review on no drain acid wash....recently. I finished doing an Ascorbic Acid treatment that is used to remove Fe impregnated in the plaster....long story short, the Fe ions remain in the water and will reattach/rebind to the plaster. So, using different agents to keep the ions in solution, I use Purple Stuff , that works for a short period, approx 2weeks, before adding more. Bottom line, the pool looks great, very clear; plaster is very white. Also, when using AA treatment, lots of the CA Carbonate is removed...it took me 20 days constantly cleaning the DE filter to remove the CA. via its precipitate.
My question to u is, even tho the plaster is without the tan iron coloration, the pool still has grey steaks where the various chemicals have itched over the years. The pool was replastered /about 7 -8 yrs ago. If I do the no drain acid wash, will the itching/grey mottling disappear?
The pool looks really good , I can't afford to continue to put the reagent ,Purple Stuff, in 2x a month.
Lastly, I also belong to other blogs, and can,t get any feedback on the no drain treatment.
Thanks for listening.... if I figure out how to send pics will do so....
The information I am looking for is the cost of installation of propane and gaz heater as well as heat pump in your area. We want to do an analysis to understand better the United States pool market. I know you probably need more information since every pool installation is different, just let me know if you need more information or how I can get the information I need. I do not need specific price just an average, to be able to do a return on investment chart. Thank you for helping me in this huge task. I also need that information in other states, if you can refer me to other PGN members. Have a wonderful day!
Kim,
on another issue we had a service company ask us to look at an indoor pool that had stains in areas across the pool. They had the Jacks Magic troubl shooter come and look at it and he had no idea what it was. They had tried several of their products and nothing worked .the stains dont come out with any treatment.
The pool was built and the stains appeared and could not be removed so the contractor replastered the pool and shortly thereafter they came back. they have a dark green to gray color in the pool. The service company said it was something "growing" through the plaster. I told them to drain the pool and cut a 1x1 foot square through both layers of plaster and remove it . The bottom of the sample which was next to the gunite had a powdery mold looking substance and appeared to have "grown" through both layers of plaster.Any ideas on what this might be?
Kim i have enjoyed reading your methods and reasons and critiques.who would think that cement and sand could be so complicated.A week doesn't go by that i learn something new and i have been in the pool business since 1976. Our company specializes in renovations and my son Ben builds pools. Since we only plaster the pool and the service company starts the pools up we have very little control over what actually happens after we leave.Recently we plastered a hotel pool with blue quartz mixture.this is an s grade size sand and the aggregate is 30-45 quartz sand and s grade color quartz,so all the aggregate is quartz. About 3 weeks later they call and say that the pool is full of white streaks and wash not acid washed properly. I went to see it and the pool had floor inlets. each of the inlets had snow white jet streams on the floor 3 to 5 feet around the inlets the rest of the floor and walls we perfect. i took a pvc pipe and positioned it over one of the white spots and poured muratic acid over it which dissolved the substance exposing the quartz surface.I asked the maintenance man what he had put in the pool and he had amnesia. He said he put in what the pool company gave him. They drained the pool and i went back and took a putty knife and scraped the white surface off and saved it. It seemed to be calcium but is there a simple test to determine what it is.Thanks for your help
Hey Kim, I just wanted to tell you that I used your bicarb startup on a recent re-plaster and the results were good. The pH and alkalinity were right where you said they would be in you directions and after a week the water was clear with very little dust. I think the dusting that I noticed was probably bicarb out of suspension because it did not cloud the water like I am used to seeing. I did add a little acid after initial fill to bring the pH down to 7.9 but that was it. I am used to adding gallons the first week so it was scary to show up every day thinking the plaster was going to be calcified, but so far no scale and the plaster is smooth. I'll keep you posted. Thank you for all your shared knowledge. Chuck Beavers - Diamond Pools
