Lights and Niches

So I need tor replace a StaRite Sunbrite Pool light. I assume that it is in a StaRite niche, although I don't know that for sure. The trouble is that StaRite no longer makes these lights. What else can I use? Can I use a Pentair IntelliBrite or Hayward ColorLogic? What about a standard Pentair Amerilite? I have been warned that the Amerilite may be too long front to back to fit in the niche. Does anyone have experience with this?

  • I can talk for the Hayward solutions.  Hayward has just released the Universal ColoLogic and Universal CrystaLogic, 12V Color and Whte LED lights, that are UL listed and both fit the Sta-Rite niche as well as most other manufactures niches.  We have tested it in more than 20 niche, dating back 50 years, there are only a few that we have found that  it cannot fit in.  You can get more information on these products on the Hayward website.

  • im away from a pentair catalog, but im pretty sure i was able to use the same niche for an intellibrite 5G last summer. But if youre wanting an incandescent fixture...hmmm. i think the jandy units are shallow, not real certain about that though, Clint.

    • I answered my own question yesterday. I pulled out the old light and temporarily put in an old water filled Pentair Amerlite with no cord that I had in my recycle pile. It fit, so at that point (and before I pulled a new light cord through) I knew that I could use either an Amerlite or IntelliBrite.
