Liner floated

Hi everyone,  does anyone have a quick place to reference vinyal liner floating issues.

I have a feeling we are going to be dealing with a customer complaint on a floating liner on a pool we didn't install just replaced the liner 3 years ago but the liner floated this year and I'm trying to find some info for the customer so they can understand better reasons why and how a liner floats.  Plus we haven't touched the pool since putting the liner in so I am not sure how it was closed etc for that period of time.

Thanks

  • completely agree. most times i will even do it as part of the opening at no charge, or like you said minimally if you have wrinkles that they want you to remove. good luck
  • Thanks Matt, we explained to the customer why this happens and they knew they had a water issue prior to us doing the liner job so we are going to fix for them for a small charge and have them sign something that states they understand the problem may return and holds us harmless. I would rather leave with a happy customer rather than try to fight this is public or worse in court even though we are not at fault doesn't always turn out in your favor.
  • I deal with this quite often. A floating liner is never a result of the liner installation or anything to do with the liner at all. The liner floats because the pool was not built with sufficient drain tile around the pool to divert the water and prevent this. In some cases you can prevent this by not draining any water out during the closing, but i have had this not even work if it was a wet and rainy winter and spring. The customer will be angry, but i always let them know that it has nothing to do with the quality of our work, it is a direct result of how the pool is built. If they would like to prevent this in the future, they would be able to install a well with a sump and drain tile and then divert the water pumped from the sump to far away from the pool.
    Hope this helps.
