I run a commercial service company in the Chicago area.  For the last 20 years or so I have been able to grow my business through word of mouth and I also took advantage of the transiency of engineers at hotels.  Now I'm looking at getting a direct mail marketing campaign going.  I have the contacts, what I am looking for is software to put all of these contacts into so I can keep track of my mailers and manage the campaigns.  Eventually I would like to do email as well, so if you have something that can do both, that would be a bonus.  Thanks in advance for your input.

  • I have been in the pool industry for over 25 years. What I found to work the best in a marketing campaign is the BNI network. they are a group of business leaders from your own community that gather once a week to share leads amongst the group. It has worked for me and they only allow 1 pool company per group. You do not have to compete, but you get exposure to 25-50 business leaders and can get the word out with just that... Words, no blanket marketing with less than a 3--5% return. just commit the time to meet with these people.

  • I'm prototyping a system to help manage leads and marketing efforts to (1) track and organize where your marketing efforts are working (email, hanger and bulletin routes, mailings and email campaigns, etc), (2) see where you are converting leads to actual customers, (3) keep this all in one system instead of on paper, Excel, or across too many existing systems, and (4) build up your social media presence and gather leads from social media sources.   I don't want to come across as simply self promoting, so message me if you want more details.

    • I'm interested in your system you are prototyping..please reach out to me

  • Steve,

I've been using Mailchimp for a while and it works great.   They have an outlook plug in that allows you to add new contacts to your mailchimp account very easily.       I only build about 40 pools per year, so I don't use email marketing too heavily.

    • This is all great.  But most of the time all you have is a physical address and will have to snail mail them advertisement through the mail.  Adding to the cost and complexity.  At that time you can point them to your website and get looked into your email service.

  • Pool Pro Office is a complete office management solution for pool builders and service companies.  It handles leads management and marketing, project management and service and warranty.  It also allows you to send out a marketing introductory letter along with export to Constant Contact for email marketing. Visit www.poolprooffice.com or contact me if you have any questions.  Thanks Mark Richter

  • Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet or Microsoft Access. I have and still use these programs to generate and manage 25,000+ addresses for swimming pool direct mail campaigns.

  • I too would like to find a model to copy of a successfully run direct mail campaign.  I'll keep watch for such.
