Residential pool cleaning service

I know there are a lot of experts out there and I was just wondering if any one might want to offer what they think might be a good number of pools a single pool service teck can clean on a weekly service route if the pools are all within walking distance from one another. It would still be full service to include Chem check, vac, brush, and check pump basket and clean cartridge filter approx every 3 weeks.Thank You

  • WhenI started my business years ago, we could clean 50/wk here in Texas. This means Oak Trees and every other debris heavy plant you could place next to a pool. The correct answer comes from a combination of account proximity, environment, expertise and equpiment. From the sounds of things, proximity is in your favor. Everything else being equal, I think 50 is a great goal to start with. If you are performing repairs this may cause the number to vary. Hire quality as soon as possible, train well and do nothing related to your service for free.
  • I've worked on both sides of the country and your geographical location has A LOT to do with how many pools you can service in a day. In densely populated areas like others have stated, 15 pools/day isn't unreasonable. In places where land is spread out more, like North Carolina, expect technicians to only be able to service 6-10/day. Just some food for thought.
  • Hey Colin Good Question And Good replies.
I've found with my service experience that if your service includes the following:
Vacuum Pool, Balance Water, Skim Surface, Brush Tile, Backwash, Empty Skimmers, Empty Pump Basket, Empty Cleaner Bag and Check Equipment.
One person can take care of about 10 pools a day or 50 a week.
If you have a neighborhood and are servicing pools all in walking distance you might even do 15 a day efficiently.
It also depends on the season.
As a supervisor I have found that 10 pool a day works the best year round for one cleaner.
In the hard seasons I think more than 10 pools makes anyone get burn out and you are in danger of not providing the service you need to keep your clients happy.
As a single service tech you just have to factor in what you can do in your area efficiently and stay with that number
  • We clean 6-8 a day in the same area. Our route is just getting going after 12 years of being out of it. What is the average cost people are charging for screened pools w/ salt chlorinators? I feel i am cheating those who do not need tabs and shock. I throw algaecide in just to feel better, and pay special attention to the high Ph issues with salt.
  • I have a typical service routine that depending on the size of the pool takes between 30 and 40 minutes, up to an hour depending on level of debris. Baskets, cleaner bag, backwash, net, brush, vacuum. The order depends on the pool, as we all know each one is its own beast. But generally when the season is in full swing here in East TN, I can hit 8-10 stops a day. Our company has 2 full-time cleaners & one seasonal, & at peak cycle we service over 130 stops a week, including several communtiy pools that get multiple weekly visits. There are also two other senior service technicians (myself being the 3rd & doubling as the service accounts manager) who handle most major service calls, so the distractions of seal replacement or filter media cleaning is passed off & your labor cost is concentrated on direct profit motives, allowing the quality of service to remain consistently top-notch.

  • Try using a centrifugal pre-filter, we have been selling it to the pool industry in Europe, Australia and North America. It will reduce the backwash frequency of your filter or reduce your filter cartridge maintenance. As it spins the dirt down to a sediment chamber, which is easily flushed at the turn of a valve. No moving parts or filter media to clean or replace.

We do offer larger filters when the old ones go bad. And yes the large Pentair quad DE filter is great I have it on my pool and it is a 20 by 40 open pool with oak trees all around it. I am now at 14 months and it has not been opened. I went the first time 12 months and it looked great for that amount of time. It also has a intelliflow pump on it and the pressure has only gone up 3 lbs from when I started it up clean.
