Im considering adding weekly service to our lists of services. We currently only do Pool tile cleaning, tile repair, rock staining and acid washes etc...

We constantly get calls asking for weekly service but we just pass them on to other local pool guys. About 6 weeks ago we started offering weekly service, but because we advertise in such a big area (So Cal) we obtained 8 accounts in 6 weeks doing no additional advertising.  These accounts are in a 30mile radius and it seems like it would take years to get to the point of having them issoalted into tight sections that allow us to be profitable.

Because of this, I started looking into buying a route in one area. I was told that small accounts bundled into 10-15 pools at a time are usually one guy trying to get rid of his "bad dogs" or bad pools. Is this true? Should I buy 30+ to avoid this. Please help??

  • Yes, thats true. I would ask for Service Records and chemical consumptions at each pool and make them take a pic of the pool and equipment prior to buying them. Make sure they pay on time they are not late payees and not a pool that has leaks and the home owner cant afford to fix so you are always adding additional chems to keep algae out of it. We have bought a route before. We had an attorney get invloved and she was great! One route was a great route to buy - Guy just needed money - 2nd route was a flake and he was doing extacly what you discribed. Thank God for Attorneys. I have a great one if you need her number.
