Just wondering how different builders feel about the type of pool one might build.  There are advantages and disadvantages to fiberglass, vinyl, and gunite pools and was wanting input on how you sell your style of construction versus another type.

  • No problem, was hoping to see input here myself. Having worked for a Distributor for almost 30 years I have talked to many people building anything out there. Some strictly pour, some shoot, some are liners only and others yet are hell bent on everyone having Fiberglass. And some will build anything they can sell you.
  • Thanks for your input Rick!!
  • I'll bump this so I can read it LOL.

Customer calls for a pool the first thing I want to know is if he has any idea at all on costs or what his budget is. If he is thinking 50k tops he isn't looking at concrete. I have had very wealthy people start describing pools to me and within minutes I had to enlighten him that we were into about 100k worth of equipment to run this monster. I often see a builder end up charging maybe double because the owner after the fact starts realizing there is a lot of deck work and landscaping that need to be considered also and the builder will usually get that.
