Who agrees that we need a formalized Certification/Licensing process for a person/business to be recognized as a professional in the swimming pool industry? Consider this to be a certification similar to the way you can't be a doctor without being board certified.

Im glad you mentioned that " I want whatever impact that regulation has to be germane to building and servicing pools, not some emotional reaction." As tragic as the intrapment deaths are the VGB was an emotional reaction and not one based on bettering the industry. It is that emotional reaction which is going to guide other laws the government decides to throw at our industry.
Should a senator/congressmans grand child have a bad reaction to chlorinated water they would react with requiring every pool to use biguanide. (Extremely bad example) The government will not consult industry professionals because it does not affect there lively hood.

True, most of us don't have a license. For those of us that do, we've been lumped into some license that seems to apply. And, maybe for those that already are licensed, it's not such a big deal. What I am advocating is a specific license for pool builders and service personnel, built by those same people. Maybe have a license that has endorsements. This would allow for service people, who never intend on building a pool, the ability to opt out of that hoop and vice-versa. It is all a theoretical exercise at this point however.
I am very conservative in my political views. I believe that all people of a society are responsible for their own actions. Unfortunately, society doesn't completely see it that way. As such, "government" throws more and more laws into the hopper every year to hold people accountable for their actions. I see the pool industry being regulated, more and more each year. Like it or not, the regulation which will take away a lot of the latitude we currently have will be gone. I want whatever impact that regulation has to be germane to building and servicing pools, not some emotional reaction.
