milky pool

I opened a pool and balanced the water and the thing turned to milk. I've seen this when algaecide and stain and scale mix but this was befor the chems were added. It's a cartridge filter but no sign of slits in the pleats. Any suggestions? I was gonna put floc in it and vacuum to waste.

    How old are the filters? Usually with a good filtration system the pool can be out of balance but look like milk. And that is the keyword when filtration is the problem "milk" is a significant clue.

    Milky water is usually caused by adding a lot of bicarb to raise TA--a temporary cloudiness that dissipates eventually. If the milkynesss stays then check pH. High ph will also result in cloudy/milky water. You may have accidentally added too much bicarb and/or soda ash. Also, I've seen this happen when the products to change water balance parameters are added one on top of the other. Ideally you should add any treatment chemcial one at a time (and not at opposite ends of the pool) and wait at least one turnover before adding the others.
