Splash and dash!!

Do you think getting referred to as a splash and dash service is an offensive expression? Someone asked the same question the other day and i said i wouldn't want to be called it but i know there are many out there. There is allot more to it than to just splash and dash but thats all some people see i guess.

  • You may be old enough to REMEMBER Green Acres, Wes, but I'm old enough to have BEEN IN IT :)

We don't clean pools in the sense of this question, but I wouldn't want to be called splash and dash either (we have used this derogatory term in the past to describe inferior pool companies).  It is right up there with the "quickee" landscape (mow, blow and go) guys!

  • I prefer "Dip and Skip"

Actually, most pools in Southern California have automatic cleaners. Tip: brush the tile with plenty of soap and it looks like you are doing a great job. Net the pool and clean the baskets. Check chems, add tabs from the bucket you sold them and left at the equipment, add a dash of Yellow Treat that you also sold them and left sitting at the equipment. Brush the steps. Go.

There is a leaf rake company that uses the expression, "Net and Jet" to describe the process of cleaning the pool with their product!

There is also a company called "Speedee Pool Service" that makes no bones about how long it should take a professional to clean a pool if he is maintaining it with preventive maintenance and chemicals. They were an inspiration for my company name!

  • One more thing. Never market yourself based on what other people do or don't do. Show why you do what you do, why what you do is better than 95% of the others in the business, and why your rate is more than reasonable. Then give them what they are looking for and a litle more. Call me what you will, I have no problems telling all my clients that they can get anyone near as knowledgeable, and anyone who will do near the services I perform for close to the price. Pool men call me to solve their difficult problems. Poolmen call me to train their new poolmen. I know what I am doing, and I do a great job for a reasonable rate. As long as I deliver as expected, I have work.
  •      I am a vacuum the pool, brush the pool, check the chemicals, add the chemicals, empty the baskets, backwash the equipment, find and troubleshoot all operational problems and concerns .... AND DASH pool service. There is a fair amount of splashing that occurs. If your name describes what you do, in comparison to what I do, then it probably fits. Why be offended at what you do? If you provide a useful service for a reasonable price be proud to be "Splash and Dash". If you are lousy at what you do, and you screw up people's water chemistry, and thus their pools and hteir equipment, then I have another name for you, "LOUSY POOLMAN". Be "Splash and Dash" if you want, but be a good one.

Tell everyone, I am "SPLASH & DASH". I will do an outstanding job of taking care of your pools water chemistry, and do it in 1/10 of the time of the more "full service" companies. If you don't want to pay for the frills, but want outstanding chemical service, call me ... Be the best at what you do. Be proud of it. Always do what's right by the customers for a rate comenserate with what you do and offer.

  • LOL

Eustace Charleton Haney: Yessir, at Haney's Farm Mindin' Service, for a nom-yew-nal fee we will move into yer house, eat yer food, drink yer likker, and turn away any unwanted relatives that might show up at yer door.

I may just start Burdine's Pool Mindin' Service.

  • I would also be offended by being referred to as a "splash and dash". I do offer a chem only service which could be called "splash and dash" I guess. I have had clients cancel because they found someone to do it cheaper, but usually are either unhappy with the new service and call to reinstate service or try to do it on thier own.  It does all go back to the saying you get what you pay for.
  • You are telling us your age with a Green Acres reference, but you are so right on!!!  LOL!!

  • Well said Wes.  If anyone does find a way to actually market " Splash and Dash" let me know, I would love people to hand me money for doing nothing.

I agree Jeremy. I would be like Mercedes or BMW having a line of new Kias at the dealership. Can't you just see:

    "Courtesy BMW and Kia"

It reminds me of the old joke comedian James Gregory use to say: "Come on dowm the Jim's Lawnmower Repair and Tax Service".

They just don't fit. Maybe if it was a monitoring service of some sort, where the customer just wants to confirm the water is balanced. Other than that, they are willing to do the rest of the work. I'd like to come up with a good name for it too.
