  • CPB,
Look for Silvertrine from Applied Biochemists. I'm certain other mfg.'s have it too but I can get this one at my local SCP.
It's truly death on black algae. Been using it for years.

I have in the past but had not thought of that (pressure washing) I have never used silver!! Does it work and who makes it? I didnt think it would kill algae but when i ask for black algacide this is what was sent to me!!!!Thanks

With "50" I'm guessing it's a polyquat which is non-foaming, unlike Backup. Perfect for pool/spa combos. While it should give better protection, I would not rely on it for killing black algae and don't know of any lables recommending polyquat for that purpose. My personal favorite is silver algicide for kicking black algae to the curb.

While we are on black algae treatment, has anyone but me ever used a pressure washer underwater to remove black algae?
We have long droughts and resulting water rationing here from time to time and a technician may need to get innovative. Ive done this with and without scuba, (but always with weights!) and it works well.

The pump should be off while washing, and then vac the pool to "waste", preferrably with a portable pump but not absolutely nessessary. Clean the grids or cartridges. Then start and treat first with shock followed by silver.

It's easier and more fun than brushing.
