It used to be easier back in the day. You could pick a chemical line, buy from the manufacturer and they would train you. As I have a long time in with this business I now like to use different chemicals and do not like depending on one brand of chemical to fit all needs. I also needed something that was user friendly for my staff. I use a Lamotte Water Link where I can upload the chemicals and parameters I use. But it is a computer and it takes a trained person to catch the things you need to. But they have an excellent online training. Also Aquacheck has an online training that is pretty decent as well. That is where I start all my staff at. Good Luck! I may have some questons on building some time. Your work looks great!

Cajun Pool Boy, my husband will be driving through Crowley tomorrow! I could send you some books then if you would like some and he could drop them off with you.

Frankie, I appreciate the kind words about my book and will be glad to arrange to get you some books. Which distributor are you closest to? I can either arrange for them to stock it o a continuing basis for you or ship you direct. My phone number is in the front of the book- can you call me? I will set it up for you! What is the name of your company? Thanks! Merry

I'm not a Bioguard dealer. I worked for Biolab for a year and a half before getting laid off. I've been in the "biz" for about 20 years which included doing service for 5. I am also a CPO Instructor.

You should be using a DPD test kit (CL test turns pink) and check for combined chlorine on a regular basis -- especially on your high-use or problem pools. OTO test kits (CL test turns yellow) only tell you what the total chlorine is and doesn't distinguish available chlorine and chloromines. I'm partial to Taylor Test kits. They have liquid reagents instead of tablets.

Biolab is one of only a few full-line pool chemical manufacturers. They do tons of research and I have the greatest respect for them when it comes to chemical knowledge. They own the labels BioGuard, Omni, Sun, Guardex, and HydroTek. Last year they decided to "shelve" Sun, Guardex and HydroTek and take Omni direct to dealers. So Sun did "go away" but the chems are still available in the Omni line. The tabs are a little bigger -- 8oz vs 7oz -- but most everything else is the same.

      Good luck with your store.
