The Chemical That Turns Urine Blue In A Swimming Pool

I just recently wrote a post on my blog about this very subject and I think we need to talk about it. In late June and early July, you are going to start getting a lot of questions. The reason is because a movie is coming out on June 25th called "Grown Ups" starring Adam Sandler and friends. There is a part in the movie (and also the trailer) where it depicts grown men peeing in a public pool and the "chemical" turns their urine blue.

So, educate your employees and tell them that the chemical does not exist. Perhaps you can sell those customer who ask, a pool sign that clearly says "Don't Pee In The Pool."

    Been a long time since I was in chemistry, but, I am sure a chemical to detect urine could be developed. Problem is it would likely react to sweat as well so you would be swimming in a blue "aura" the entire time. :)

    i like the one that says we dont swim in your toilet so do pee in our pool

    I remember seeing a novelty product that basically looked like a bag of rocks that you'd put on the ladder rails that was said to contain a chemical to color urine

    It's not Blue (Adam Sandler) or Red (Bruce), my Mom always told me it would turn purple, and Mom's know best..

    That's an oldie Mathew. Another version has the water turning red but I really like the blue one better. Keeps 'em guessing!
