There isn't much we don't do in regards to the backyard experience. We have a Landscape Architect on staff for the design aspects. We also consult on new construction and renovations. We build pools and spas, both residential and commercial. Our Service department maintains and repairs those pools and spas. We offer educational classes (CPO) to our clients as well as more basic classes for the homeowner. We also offer remodeling of the pool, or even the entire landscape. Oh, did I mention the store that provides parts, chemicals, testing and other products our clients may need for the upkeep or repairs of their pool or spa.
My education started as a kid taking care of pools for relatives. This evolved into being a commercial operator and I eventually joined a pool service company as their service manager and later general manager. This gave me a pretty solid back ground in all aspects of the pool world. Along the way there have been a lot of manufacturer's training sessions, seminars and certifications. Most importantly, I have learned (and continue to do so) a great deal from the people I work with who have been in this industry 30+ years. I continue to find a new aspect I had not considered or learn something new about the industry every day.
If you are looking for a great industry specific education I suggest the seminars during the Pool and Spa Expo. Every time I have gone I have had a great educational experience. I suspect this is true of the other trade shows as well.
I also suggest non-industry specific training such as business classes, safety training, first aid and even design classes.
I get a day off I will give you a call and see what your up to.
Thanks.

The trade shows have many seminars that are very informative. Like yourself, I had to learn leak locating on my own, but Leak Masters can usually be counted on for training seminars at the regional shows.
Does Horner Equip. still have their HITT classes? I know Lauderdale is a long drive from Key Weird but maybe they are offered online?
Manufacturers normally offer schools during the "off" season too.
And there is now the Forum right here on PGN!!! There is a lot of good info that gets passed around on this site, so stay tuned!!
We also build pools- see our website at www.tortorella.com. In regard to your second question, there is a ton of training available through APSP and NSPF. Just google the website and follw the link that says "education"
