  • I too love the 3M pads, but they are completely worthless on rockwork, or waterline PebbleTec. We have actually used the 7" pads (on my large 9" grinder that I use to powersand entire pools) to buff out travertine tile with good results too. Just make sure that you drain down the water enough... they don't do well when they get a little wet, and on the 4 1/2" grinder @ 11,000 rpm, they will whip up the water even if you have it drained down 2" or 3".
  • Hey Cajun Pool Boy,
David's comment reminded me of another tool i'm using. 3M makes Scotch Bright pads that are designed to be used with an angle grinder. They are available in several sizes and grades and mount on a backer pad. On my 4 1/2 in. grinder I use a 4 in. Fine pad that secures to the pad with a 1/4 turn locking stub. These pads will clean crust from the face of the tile very quickly without damage. They don't get into the grout joint very effectively, however.

The nationwide distributor for all things 3M is R.S. Hughes Co. and you should be able to find one in your area. Sometimes you can find them at a welding supply. Good luck bro.
  • Media blast... glass bead, or other softer material based on the surface being cleaned.
  • CPB,
Rex mentions a product called "Power Blue" in the Tile Cleaning Group. The Youtube video looks promising.
