Looking for input on any of the major calcium hypochlorite tablet feeders from service professionals in the field. I am looking primarily at three options and would like to hear your opinions on:

  • PPG's Accu-tab feeder
  • All Chem's Vantage ACF feeder
  • Arch's Pulsar feeder

  • Ditto , Pulsar cloggy messy . hard to set relay because your feeder always clogged. the acc tab fixed the issues. I did hear that puslar changed it tabs Applied Bio has a cal hypo tab that goes into skimmers.  Works very good.

  • I personally have dealt with all three Cal Hypo Systems.  Mostly Ripping one out for the other.

Pulsar Feeders, with their tubing connections and venturi injection, can become a hassle from time to time, due to clogging.

Vantage is not consistent, and has problems with reliablility.

The Accutab system is probably to date the easiest system to use of the three (I understand that over the years their feed systems have gone through various changes, but today its a very reliable feeder).  Its most important asset is its tablet.  Axiall's (formerly PPG) Cal Hypo Formula does not have fillers, like the competition, and is probably the only tablet that actually dissolves completely into solution...I have seen Filters completely clog up with a "muddy" substance that literally cant be backwashed out of the filter, and To Date, not one manufacturers rep will explain what it could be.

Axiall doesn't clog, because it uses regular piping to dispense the product...and no venturi to clog.  Powerbase systems have a small footprint, and its largest feeder can dose more product than the Pulsar 4.

    • Just wanted to add an Update:

Axiall recently updated their line of feeders, allowing them to achieve almost a 300% increase in output compared to what they did last year, simply through a redesign of their sieve plate.

The Model 3140AT, for example, can now properly dose an 800,000 gallon pool (outdoors), when it used to only cover up to 300,000 gallons.  (This is sizing based on the ability to reach 10ppm within one hour, NOT other Sizing calculations).  I'm attaching a video showing the new sieve plate in action...

  • I know of one member on PGN who currently uses the Vantage system and says it is better than the competing brands. I don't have any customers in the Myrtle Beach area currently using it, but have heard that the lines don't get clogged and is a highly dependable feeder.
  • Any more insight to this discussion?  Scott how is the Vantage sytem working?
  • Thanks guys for your input. In my market, Pool Corp has partnered up with PPG and have been hitting service professionals hard. The feeders would be purchased thru PPG and the cal hypo tabs would be purchased thru a local Pool Corp distribution channel. My company works with AllChem and we have access to the Vantage system and was curious about which feeder was optimal for commerical application.
    • I think the Vantage feeders are great. If maintained, they flow steady and produce beautiful water. Been using them 5-6 seasons and have noticed less algae and fewer shocks.

  • I stand corrected when I said…

I truly don’t think we will ever hear from the select few of very powerful, very influential network of proprietary Pulsar dealers here in the US, simply because they have nothing to gain from doing so.

Al Mendosa, who just commented on this discussion, is one of top leaders we have in this industry of ours, particularly in the field of Commercial Aquatics. As pertaining to this discussion on Cal Hypo Feeders, he is perhaps not only the largest Pulsar Dealer in the US and Caribbean, but is also the largest dealer for the Solution HCF Venturi Liquid Chlorine Feeder as well. He is also one of the largest dealers, and probably highly influenced the evolution of one of the best and most reliable chemical controllers out there that I ever had the "brief" privilege of using, the Bec’s line of controllers… which for me would be specifically the Bec’s Sys 5.

So I’m honored that Al Mendosa has decided to comment, and hope he will continue to enlighten us on some of the particulars on just why the Pulsar feeders are best, and maybe why High Calcium Chemistry,as related to Cal Hypo, is so good for our pools.  The PGN is all about sharing and learning from each other, and I can think of no better teacher than somebody with his practical expertise and credentials.

  • I have worked with all three and the Arch Pulsar feeder is the best. It feeds chemicals downstream, is reliable, and works well in a wide variety of applications.
