Open 7 Days a week?

We are currently open Monday - Saturday.  We have been discussing being open on Sundays for the summer.  Without working 6-7 days a week, any tips on how this can be accomplished?  We have 2 owners that work 5-6 days a week each and I'm the manager and work 5 days a week.  We have 2 full time employees and 1 part time as well.  We will be hiring 1 more for summer.

  • We just announce when Sunday hours start and post it, and our customers know it is for just the warmer months. It has worked out pretty well.

Kris, Are you open Sundays year round or just summer months?

Merry, Our owners are concerned about being open Sundays for just a few months. They think it may be hard to stop it once we start it. My suggestion was just advertising being open Sundays for the months of May - July and that be it.

We have customers that make sure they come see us Saturday because they know we are closed Sunday. So, being open Sunday make take some business from Saturday, but add the Sunday for "uh-ohs" :)
  • The owner for Chick Fil-A was recently doing an interview in which he stated that they have never been open on Sundays. Last year(2009) they were up 10% from 2008 and 2008 profits were up 12% from 2007. Maybe more isn't always better.

  • We have been open Sunday's for a few years now. I used to come in on Sunday just to do paperwork & people would walk in the door to purchase product. After a few weeks of that, we officially opened 10 - 2. Pinch a Penny is open 11-3 in the warmer months. The staff that works the weeekend takes Wed or Thurs off.
  • We stay open half a day Sundays during the warm months. We use one of our part time young help to cover the store then and it works out pretty well. We found it a waste to be open 7 days during the winter, though.
  • Totally agree - all the pool stores around here are open on Sundays. Hopefully the extra sales will cover the extra expense!
  • I hear that ALL the time from our customers. "Well, it was Sunday and you were not open so I had to go to Leslies/Home Depot/Lowes" We have 2 Leslie's somewhat close to us too. One has been there for YEARS and the other one has been open 2 years or so. I would love to take some market share away from them.

I heard Sundays could be your biggest buying day of the week. Most people are super busy on Saturdays to make it to the pool store. Sunday is usually the day at home and when they'll be using the pool. If you are closed, they'll goto Leslie's.
